Dropdown options for text templates

It would be great if we could add custom dropdowns to text templates, so we don't have to make a template for every single scenario if one word/ value is changed.
Current eg 1:
Instead of having these templates:
'Hello, the quote is $100'
'Hello, the quote is $200'
'Hello, the quote is $___' which we have to remember to not send out without editing...
Current eg 2:
Instead of having these templates:
'Hello, John will be there to greet you'
'Hello, Jill will be there to greet you'
'Hello, ______ will be there to greet you' which we have to remember to not send out without editing...
When we're composing the message using the template, can we leave a custom dropdown there in the template that we can select the values of in the message before it goes out? And until a value in the dropdown is selected, message will not send? (by that logic, these special templates will not be able to be scheduled)
ALTERNATIVELY, it could be a 'placeholder' word that if not changed, won't allow the message to be sent?
Hope that makes sense, I know it's not typical, but not sure if it's possible

This can all be achieved with custom fields.

Damian Surr Custom fields will not give me options to choose from, it returns blank if not edited, and it is not a 'required' value in text messages so we don't send without it being adjusted. It is not a value we can pull as we are giving quotes in real time

M Mart If you use single option drop down fields, you will get options to choose from.
It you want to make life really easy for everyone, and ensure that messages don’t go out without the field options selected, just create a form! Include any custom fields that you’d like in the message. Have them all dropdowns if you want, or mix and match. Make all fields required, pre-fill with defaults, if you want, etc. Then, when the form is submitted, just create a simple workflow to wait one minute, then send an SMS.
The form option would be much more user friendly than trying to add dropdowns into the SMS area. You’d be able to send quotes on the road, on your phone, with a couple of clicks.
