The only way I've found to do this currently in automations is to send a templete document I created pre-filled with signature and date fields to be completed by the client, immediately followed by an email with a set appointment buttom linked to my calendar. Then, after an appointment is set, the calendar triggers another automation to send the appointment reminders with "wait" stops between send reminders each with a reschedule and cancel link from the calendar. It seems to work and may work for you if I understand what you're lookinng for? Just thought I'd throw that out there in case it helps any one else.
I should also mention, I made a custom field on the contact I call "disposition" with a "single line" drop down I use to trigger this event since I have several options for content with the same process. So, it is self initiated but automated after that. I don't know this may not be what you're looking for????

This is such a vital request. my use case is a bit different but would be so profoundly helpful to have more actions available for appointments in workflows/automations. I want to be able to have a client sign a contract and then schedule an appointment on a my round robin hair and makeup calendar to schedule hair and makeup right away. its not a process my clients ever need to see but its something that takes me forever to do manually having to check with 3 different HMU artists

I dont understand why we cant book someone in to a class calendar slot via a workflow yet... this is super important. ive spent hours and hours trying to get a developer to get this working and its so buggy.. we need something native

I don't trust the App Marketplace search function to help me (let alone my end users) find a solution to clients' operational problems.
