Allow 'Commission Earned' custom value to be used in math operation

I'd like to create a workflow where I can update my 'commissions earned' custom field on the contact record with the math operation. Non of the affiliate custom variables show up in the math operation when the custom field is 'monetary' or 'number'.
This allows me to do all sorts of things like automatically send notifications when my affiliates earn certain amounts.
