Next Action Date / Overdue in Opportunities

When managing a sales pipeline, it's the opportunities section which needs to be tended to on an almost continuous basis. Whilst the 'Kanban' style is visually useful, not all opportunities in each stage will require 'immediate' management. For example if someone says, "Give me a shout in two months". For the purpose of manual follow-up work, you don't really want to see this opportunity again until the time it becomes due.
Technically speaking, I know that we have tasks that could be used for this purpose, however, unless they are connected to an opportunity and can be filtered by the same stages in which the pipeline is, it makes them ineffective for efficient follow-up.
--- Potential Solutions: ---
1) Adding core 'next action' functionality into the opportunities.
2) Adding the ability to better filter date-based opportunity custom fields e.g. 'next action' based on overdue, due today, etc, rather than just dates in the past. E.g. 'Last 7 days, Last 30 days, etc.
BONUS #1: Also, saving these settings as SmartLists within opportunities would be very welcome. I assume this is coming given the 'coming soon' message in the app.
BONUS #2: Allowing the date picker custom field type to include 'time' too.

I think either a warning icon or color indicator would be ideal.
